Why?

Why does asking why make people decide that I must not believe in the Gospel or in God or prophets? Since when are we supposed to be blind sheeple?

I think, perhaps, for some, it's because they don't like the potential discomfort (or work) that's associated with the question.

They don't have to do any work, though. If they have no questions, that's their deal, although, I don't know how one has faith without questions.
Discomfort? I can see that, I suppose.

Well that's just it. They don't want to work. They just want to continue on the pablum diet, spoon fed and told what to believe and how to behave. And they relinquish their right and power to question in the name of some strange idea of faith. Well, Alma says that faith is to believe in things that are true. How do we ascertain the truth of things?

Ultimately, like John says, eternal life is to know God. We cannot be saved in ignorance. We must come to know God and develop a relationship with Him of we are to really be saved and come to be like Him. King Benjamin spoke of this - that we need to have Him close to us, in our thoughts and intentions. This implies so much more than a casual, cursory relationship. But again, this implies work, and a significant degree of discomfort.

Still. I'm with you. I don't really get it either. I'm just not wired that way.

It is some strange idea of faith. I do not understand it. I don't get how just "believing" is faith. And, faith without works is dead, anyhow. I have faith. Thank God for personal revelation.
